" I know that the small acts we take toward the healing of the world are the only steps we can take, and that the way change happens in this country is from the grassroots, a rhizomatic, perpetual motion, like the beautiful, pernicious bindweed in the garden." ~ Rachel Kaplan, Author of Urban Homesteading. My Grandma Bea taught me to sew. I had heartache not bringing her Bernina with me. It was too heavy to fly. I bought a little machine down here to do hems, like these curtains. I feel close to her when I sew. I'm not good, but I can get the job done. Grateful for the skills. But I wish had done more to teach my daughters home skills. I felt it would limit their horizons, feminize them too much. But now I understand that home skills make us more resilient and self-reliant. #permaculture #skills #sewing #feminism #fashion #homedecor #homeeconomics #homesteading #slowlife #nicaragua
